dia 0.96 released with basic Microsoft Visio VDX format support

This was released for quite some already, not sure how I missed it. :-D

When I looked for the updates on GIMP 2.4 (it's rc3 now) today, I found that dia 0.96 was released, but with an interesting new feature: the addition of support on Microsoft Visio Drawing XML (*.vdx) format .

1. Version 0.96 of Dia released:
http://gnomedesktop.org/node/2985

2. Official homepage
http://live.gnome.org/Dia

3. Win32 version (GTK runtime already included with the package)
http://dia-installer.sourceforge.net/

Right away, I've done a few testings between Visio 2003 and dia 0.96, both saving / exporting as *.vdx format in each programs interchangably.

I would say the preliminary result is like the early days of OpenOffice.org 1.0; for example, the network diagram I exported from Visio 2003 is readable from dia 0.96, but some objects / lines are missing. However, the overall diagram shape, nodes and object locations are intact. Conversely, the diagram exported from dia 0.96 as VDX is also readable under Visio 2003.

Now I suppose Linux users will also have a way to read Visio diagrams by asking their correspondence to save the file as VDX.

Let's hope this VDX filter will be further improved to match higher Visio compatibility and object behavior.
