Submission on Innovation and technology development policy from Open Source Hong Kong

In the response to the invitation from the Panel on Commerce and Industry of the Legislative Council in Hong Kong, our organisation ‘Open Source Hong Kong’ make a submission today in English and Chinese to describe the open source development in recent year and our opinion on Innovation and technology development and the re-industrialization policy in Hong Kong.

We describe that open source becomes the new model of global technology development and market economy, and use the development of open source decentralised blockchain technology and open source big data technology as examples.

We also mention some participation and development of open source movements and projects in Hong Kong and educational contribution from our exco member. Open source technologies show a wider vision of technology development and more social benefit and impacts.

In conclusion, we suggested some policies which can help open source professionals and communities to grow, and improve the open technology education.
