HKRUG’s Chung-hong Chan will leave Hong Kong soon and he would like to deliver a farewell lecture to the Hong Kong R User Group and Open Source Hong Kong.

Storytelling with data: my awkward data journalism adventure

In this lecture, I will tell you my accidental venture into the business of data journalism. From a behind-the-scene look at technical details of some projects, I am going to share what I have learned and what I have been criticise for during my adventitious journey. In the end, storytelling with data is an art, a science, an engineering process, and everything in between.

Speaker Bio:
Chung-hong Chan is a PhD student at the Journalism and Media Studies Centre, HKU. His PhD research focuses on the opinion polarisation on the social media. Currently, he is the maintainer of the Weiboscope project. He also writes under the pseudonym “chainsawriot” (陳電鋸) to explore the possibility of data journalism in Hong Kong.
